Okay, so I wanted to get this Brook Wingman FGC working on my PS4, specifically to use the “hold triangle” function for training mode in fighting games. I’ve messed with these Brook converters before, so I wasn’t totally in the dark, but this particular feature had me scratching my head a bit.

Getting Started
First, I plugged the Wingman FGC into my PS4. The usual stuff – the console recognized it, and my fight stick (which is NOT a PS4 native stick, that’s the whole point!) was working. So far, so good.
The Problem
The “hold triangle” thing. I went into training mode in Guilty Gear, and… nothing. Just pressing triangle did its normal thing, but holding it down didn’t activate the record/playback function I was looking for. I was like, “What am I doing wrong?”
Figuring It Out – Firmware!
Then it hit me: firmware updates! Brook is pretty good about releasing updates for their converters, adding features and fixing bugs. So, I grabbed my laptop.
And Find Brook’s website. It’s not the prettiest website, but it’s functional. I navigated to the Wingman FGC page and found the firmware download section.
- Download the Firmware: I downloaded the latest firmware file. It was a .zip file, so I extracted it.
- Update Mode: Here’s the crucial part. To put the Wingman FGC into update mode, you have to hold down the little button on the converter while you plug it into your PC. It’s a bit fiddly, but you’ll know it’s in update mode because the LED will do a slow, steady blink.
- Run the Updater: Inside the extracted folder, there was an .exe file (the updater program). I ran that, and it recognized the Wingman FGC in update mode.
- Update!: I clicked the “Update” button (or whatever it was called – it was obvious). It took maybe 30 seconds, and then it said “Update Successful!”
Back to the PS4
I unplugged the Wingman FGC from my laptop, plugged it back into the PS4, and fired up Guilty Gear again. Went into training mode… and boom! Holding down triangle now activated the recording function! It worked perfectly.
Success!
So, the key takeaway here is: if you’re having trouble with a Brook converter, especially with a specific feature, always check for firmware updates. It’s usually the solution. Don’t be like me and waste time wondering what you’re doing wrong before checking the obvious!
It did what it was supposed to. I can get back to training mode without any other problems. The setup steps are not very difficult, just a bit of attention to detail, but the button is very important. You’ll be fine!
