Okay, so I got curious the other day about how much those guys in the striped shirts make – you know, basketball refs. I mean, they’re running up and down the court, making split-second decisions, and dealing with all that pressure. So I decided to do some digging.
First Steps: The Obvious Places
I started where everyone starts: I just started searching. Just typing stuff into the search box, you know? Trying different things until something useful came up.
Digging Deeper: Finding the Real Numbers
Then, I realized I needed to be more specific. NBA refs are obviously going to make more than, say, high school refs. So I started looking into the different levels.
- High School: From what I gathered, high school refs are usually paid per game, It’s not a full-time gig.
- College: I saw some different numbers, seems like college refs make more, especially in the bigger conferences.
- NBA:Finally, I found what I think are some pretty reliable numbers for NBA refs. It talked about entry-level versus experienced refs, and how much they can make in the regular season and playoffs.
- Other factors: I found that experience, performance, the level of the game (regular season versus playoffs), all can make a significant difference.
Putting It All Together: My Takeaway
So, after spending a good time on this, what did I learn? Well,
it’s clear that becoming an NBA ref is a long and hard process. And when I compare it to some common payment per game,
the pay scale is very different from level to level.
It is a long way to go, I have to say!
