Okay, so I saw this headline about Scottie Scheffler having a meltdown at the BMW Championship, and I was like, “No way, not Scottie!” He’s usually so calm and collected. I had to check out what happened.

First, I jumped onto YouTube, figuring there’d be some highlight reels, or lowlight reels in this case. And yep, there were plenty. I started watching a few videos, skipping through to see the key moments.
What I saw was a bunch of missed putts. Like, really short ones, the kind that even I, a weekend hacker, feel like I could make… most of the time. It was painful to watch. He’d line them up, look good, and then… lip out, slide by, just miss. Over and over.
Then I dug a little deeper. I wanted to see the stats. Went to a couple of golf news sites, you know, the usual ones. They had all the numbers.
The numbers were brutal. Strokes Gained: Putting was a disaster. He was losing shots to the field left and right. It wasn’t just one round either; it was happening throughout the tournament.
I also checked out some commentary, read some articles, people talking about what they thought was going on. Some folks mentioned the pressure of being number one, others talked about maybe a slight technical flaw creeping in.
My observations of the whole thing
- The pressure is real. Being the top-ranked player, everyone’s gunning for you, and every little mistake gets magnified.
- Putting is fickle. Even the best in the world can have a bad week on the greens. It’s a game of inches, and sometimes those inches just don’t go your way.
- It happens. Everyone has a bad day at the office. Scottie’s human, after all.
I even looked at some of the social media chatter. People that think they can do better.
Honestly, it made me feel a bit better about my own putting woes. If it can happen to Scottie Scheffler, it can definitely happen to me. I’m sure he’ll bounce back. He’s too good not to. But man, that was a rough week for him.
