Okay, so today I decided to tackle the “Great Heights” crossword. You know, I’ve always loved a good word puzzle, and this one seemed like a fun challenge.

First, I printed out the crossword. Yeah, I’m old school like that. I like to have a physical copy to scribble on. I grabbed a pencil (never a pen for crosswords, too risky!) and found a comfy spot on the couch.
I started by scanning the clues, looking for the easy ones – the fill-in-the-blanks or the ones I knew right away. I jotted down a few answers, feeling pretty good about my progress. “Piece of cake!” I thought.
- “A type of small bird” Four letters. Easy! “WREN”.
- “Not short”, easy and classic, five word, “TALL”.
Then, I hit a wall. Some of these clues were tough! I spent a good 20 minutes staring at the grid, trying to make sense of the wordplay. I skipped around, trying different clues, hoping something would click.
I started using some classic crossword strategies. I looked for common letter combinations, like “ER” or “ING”. I tried fitting in words that seemed likely, even if I wasn’t 100% sure. And, of course, I resorted to a little bit of cheating… I mean, “research”. I grabbed my phone and looked up a few words I was unsure of. Hey, everyone needs a little help sometimes, right?
My Solving Tricks
I have some tips can share to you.
- Look up anything and everything.
- Look for little words within longer answers.
- Fill in your “for-sure” answers lightly in pencil.
Finally, after about an hour, I managed to complete the whole thing! It was a satisfying feeling, seeing all those boxes filled in. I leaned back, admired my handiwork, and felt like a crossword champion. Or, at least, a slightly-above-average crossword solver. Until next time!
