Alright, so I’ve been getting absolutely wrecked by Malphite in the top lane lately. It’s like, no matter who I pick, this dude just turns into an unkillable rock monster and crushes me. So, I decided to get serious and figure out how to actually deal with him. This is my journey.

Phase 1: Denial and Rage
First, I just tried to brute force it. You know, “I’m better than this guy, I can just outplay him!” Nope. Played a bunch of games as different champions, kept getting slammed. Tried Fiora, thinking I could parry his ultimate… still got smashed. Tried Darius, thinking I could bleed him out… nope, rock beats axe, apparently. Lots of yelling at my monitor happened during this phase.
Phase 2: The Research Begins
Okay, clearly, raw aggression wasn’t working. Time to hit the internet. I started looking up “Malphite counter” and stuff like that. Found a bunch of articles and forum posts. Some people said ranged champions were good, others said to pick someone who could sustain through his poke. Got a lot of mixed messages, to be honest.
Phase 3: Testing the Waters (and Getting Wet)
So I had some ideas. I figured I’d try some of the suggestions. I played a few games as Teemo. The idea was to poke him down from a distance and make his life miserable. It worked… sometimes. If I played perfectly, I could win lane. But one mistake, and BOOM, I’m dead. Super risky.
Then, I tried a few games with a tankier champion like maokai. The theory was that I could just soak up his damage and farm safely. This was… better. I didn’t die as much, but I also wasn’t really winning. It was more like a stalemate. Atleast i can farm and scale now.
Phase 4: The “Aha!” Moment (Maybe?)
I was still frustrated. I felt like I was getting closer, but not quite there. Then I remembered a friend telling me about champions that have shields to defend Malphite’s Q. I thought, “Wait a minute, if the key is surviving his poke, maybe I can do some magic to beat him!”
- Mordekaiser: I can survive his poke with my W and when he goes in, i can make him regret doing that, or just simply ult him.
- Gangplank: I can just eat orange and be safe, and farm with my Q.
- Sion:If I time my W right, I can defend myself well and trade with him equally.
Phase 5: Putting It All Together
I tried some other things from my small list, and wow, the results were significantly better! I still made some mistakes, for sure, but I felt like I had a real chance. I could actually survive the lane, and sometimes even win trades! I was finally starting to understand how to play against this big, dumb rock.
So, that’s where I’m at now. I’m still learning, and I definitely still lose to Malphite sometimes. But I’m not just blindly raging anymore. I have a plan, and I’m getting better at executing it. It’s a work in progress, but hey, at least I’m not feeding my brains out every game now!
