Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with the Mississippi State football depth chart. You know, see who’s playing where, who’s backing up who, all that good stuff. It’s not always easy to find this info in one nice, neat place, so I figured I’d dig in and put it together myself.

First, I started by hitting up the official Mississippi State Athletics website. I figured that’s gotta be the most reliable source, right? I poked around the football section, looking for anything labeled “roster” or “depth chart.” Sometimes it’s right there on the main page, other times you gotta dig through a few menus.
Finding the Roster
I found the roster pretty easily, it was just a list of all players, which great. I checked out player and found his number and position.

Putting It All Together
Now for the real work. I just opened up a simple document. At the top, I listed the main offensive positions: Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver (and the different WR spots, like X, Z, H), Tight End, and the Offensive Line (Left Tackle, Left Guard, Center, Right Guard, Right Tackle).
Then, under each position, I started filling in names. Based on what I’d seen, I put who I thought was the starter, then the second-string guy, and maybe even the third-string if I could figure it out. It was kind of like putting together a puzzle, trying to piece together the information.
I did the same thing for the defense: Defensive Line (Ends and Tackles), Linebackers (and the different LB positions), Cornerbacks, and Safeties.
It wasn’t perfect, of course. I’m not a coach, and I don’t have inside information. But I managed to get a pretty good sense of the team’s layout. It was actually kind of fun, like being a virtual general manager for a few hours!
Finally, I had a document showing a rough, unofficial, fan-made Mississippi State football depth chart. It’s something I can refer back to during the season, and it helped me get a little more familiar with the team.
Not bad for a little afternoon project!
