Okay, so I’ve been doing crossword puzzles lately, just to kill some time and keep my brain ticking. And man, some of those clues are tough! I was stuck on one today, and I figured I’d walk you through how I finally cracked it. The clue was “have time to chat.”

My first thought was, like, “free,” right? If you’re free, you have time to chat. But that didn’t fit. I counted the spaces, needed five letters, and I tried to force it, but I just knew it wasn’t that.
Then I tried thinking about synonyms for “chat.” You know, “talk,” “gossip,” “visit”… none of those were working, either. They were either too short or too long, or when I filled in some letters by answering other clues, I was just stuck.
Trying a Different Angle
I decided to just leave it alone for a bit. Sometimes you gotta walk away and come back with fresh eyes, you know? So I worked on some other parts of the puzzle, got a few more letters filled in, and then I looked back at “have time to chat” and I still wanted five-letter word.
Then I tried a different way. I stared to think, that I needed a verb. Something that means I am free to talk. It took me about two hours. Then I decided to check it online.
I Googled “have time to chat crossword clue”. Just like that. And boom, the first couple of results were all pointing towards the same answer: IDLE.
The “Aha!” Moment
I was like, “IDLE?! Really?” It makes perfect sense. If you’re idle, you’re not doing anything, so of course, you’d have time to chat. It fit the five-letter space, and all the cross-letters matched up. I felt so dumb for not seeing it earlier, but also kinda proud that I eventually figured it out, even if I needed a little nudge from Google.
So, yeah, that’s my little crossword adventure for the day. The big takeaway? Sometimes you gotta look at things from a different direction, and sometimes you just need to type the whole thing into Google. Don’t be afraid to use your * keep on puzzling. It’s good to give yourself a little test like that.
