Okay, so I got really curious about Conor McGregor’s back tattoo. You know, the one that goes all the way down his spine? I wanted to see it up close and get a good look at all the details.

First, I scoured the internet for some good, high-quality pictures. I mean, I needed to really see this thing. This took a while, lots of scrolling through blurry fight photos and paparazzi shots. Finally I found it.
My Deep Dive into McGregor’s Ink
After finding some decent reference photos, I started sketching it out. Just a rough outline at first, to get the placement and general flow right. I was using this one pic of him shirtless at a weigh-in, because the lighting was good and you could see the whole thing really clearly.
- I used a regular pencil for this, nothing fancy.
- I focused on to drawing the flow.
- Then, I added a little bit of shading.
It’s way more intricate than I initially thought! There are, it is a thorny crucifix with what appear to be feathery wings and a helix. I spent a good hour just trying to figure out all the little twists and turns, and I realized that drawing the tattoo is not easy.
Finally, I finished this art searching and drawing, and I felt satisfied for my curious, haha.
