Okay, so today I tried to tackle this “heredity crossword” thing. It sounded kinda fun, like a word puzzle but with a science twist. I’m not gonna lie, I’m no biology whiz, but I figured, why not give it a shot?

First, I printed out the crossword. It was a pretty standard-looking grid, with a bunch of clues listed on the side. Some were, like, super obvious: “DNA’s shape.” Easy peasy, double helix, right? Others, not so much. I stared at some of those clues for a good while, my brain totally blank.
My Struggle is Real
- “Unit of heredity”… gene! Or… wait, is it allele? Nope.
- Then some others that were asking what a punnett square is, or a definition for “genotype.”
- “Alternative form of a gene.” Okay, that must be it. I think, and wrote down what my brain thought.
I Googled a few things, I’m not ashamed to admit it. I needed some hints, especially for those longer clues. I found a couple of websites with genetics terms and definitions. Those helped a bunch. I also looked back at some old notes from high school. Yeah, it had been a while.
Slowly but surely, I started filling in the boxes. It was like a little victory every time I got a word right. I used a pencil, of course, because I definitely made some mistakes along the way. Erasing is my friend.
It took me a good chunk of time, probably longer than it should have, but I finally finished it! I felt pretty good, even though I know I didn’t get everything perfect. I’d say I got most of it filled in, but I am not too sure on correctly answering it.
I did this just to try something a little different. It was a fun way to refresh, I will just need to brush up on basic genetics. It will be useful for sure!
