Okay, so I’ve been trying to catch this darn Walleye in Stardew Valley for, like, ever. I swear, this fish is a ninja. I read somewhere that it’s a nighttime, rainy-weather-only kind of fish, so I’ve been gearing up for that.

First things first, I made sure my fishing skill was up to snuff. You don’t want to be wrestling with this thing with a low skill level. It’s just frustrating. I spent a few days just fishing, like, all the time. I caught a ton of other fish, sold them, leveled up, the whole deal. I’d put in the work by doing this for weeks!
Getting Ready
- Checked the Season: Walleye are only around in Fall and Winter. And you can summon them with a Rain Totem in any season! I am in fall at this moment.
- Got my Best Rod: I had the Fiberglass Rod, which is pretty good for this. The Iridium Rod would be amazing, but I’m not quite there yet.
- Loaded up on Bait: I used the regular bait. I’ve heard some folks swear by the Magic Bait, but regular seemed good enough for me.
The Hunt
So, I waited for a rainy day. When it finally came, I was pumped. I headed to the river – that’s my go-to spot, but they also appear in the lake and forest pond. It has to be after noon and before 2 AM, so I got there around, like, 4 PM. I was not messing around.
I cast my line out, and…nothing. For, like, an hour. Real-time, not game time! Then, I started getting nibbles, but it was just the usual suspects – bream, chub, the occasional smallmouth bass. Ugh.
Finally, around 9 PM, I felt a different kind of tug. This one was strong. The little fishing mini-game popped up, and this fish was fighting. It was darting all over the place. My heart was pounding, I’m not gonna lie. I was so scared of losing it. I was visualizing that I must get this fish now. I had to focus.
I carefully kept the little green bar on the fish, reeling in when I could, letting it run when it needed to. It took a good few minutes – felt like forever! – but finally, I hauled it in. And there it was: a Walleye! It was not particularly big. But I don’t care. It was done!
Honestly, it was a huge relief. I immediately put it in my inventory, went home, and tucked it away in a chest. I felt so proud of myself at the moment.
So, yeah, that’s my Walleye saga. It’s all about patience, the right weather, the right time, and a little bit of luck. If you’re struggling to catch one, just keep at it! You’ll get it eventually. It really just need a few tries, and I was lucky to do it after many failed tries. It’s just a matter of time. Don’t give up!
