Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Roman Reigns’ hair for, like, ever. It’s just so… powerful. I decided I was going to try and get my hair as close to his as possible. This is my journey.
Phase 1: The Grow Out
First things first, I had to grow my hair out. My hair was pretty short, so this was going to be the longest part. I stopped getting haircuts. Completely. My wife was not thrilled. It got pretty shaggy, and I looked like a mess for a good few months. I just kept thinking, “What Would Roman Do?” (WWRD) and kept going.
Phase 2: Product Experimentation
- Oils: I tried a bunch of different hair oils. Argan oil, coconut oil, some weird “beard and hair” oil my buddy recommended (it smelled like a campfire). I put it in after showering, trying to get that slick, wet look.
- Pomades: This was a whole new world. Matte finish, high shine, strong hold, medium hold… I felt like I was drowning in options. Some of them made my hair feel like a helmet. Others just made it greasy.
- Sea Salt Spray: I even tried sea salt spray! My thinking was to get some texture, like when roman has dry looks. It actually made my hair kind of crunchy, which isn’t really the vibe.
My bathroom started looking like a beauty supply store exploded. I was spending way too much money on this, but I was committed.
Phase 3: Styling Struggles
Even with the right products (which I was still figuring out), styling was a nightmare. I’d spend ages in front of the mirror, trying to get that perfect swoop, that controlled chaos. Sometimes it looked okay. Most of the time, it looked like I’d stuck my finger in a socket. And the top knot? Forget about it. My hair just wasn’t long enough, and it kept falling apart.
Phase 4: The Breakthrough (Sort Of)
I finally found a combination that worked okay. A leave-in conditioner, followed by a small amount of argan oil, and then a medium-hold pomade with a bit of shine. I still couldn’t get the top knot right, but the slicked-back look was decent. I wouldn’t say I looked exactly like Roman Reigns, but I felt a little closer. My hair was definitely longer and healthier, even if it wasn’t quite “Tribal Chief” level yet.
Phase 5: Maintenance and Acceptance
Keeping this up is work! I have to condition my hair like crazy. I’m constantly adjusting it throughout the day. And I still haven’t mastered the perfect wet look that he sometimes has. But, I’m getting there. It’s a process. I’ve accepted that I’m probably never going to have exactly his hair, but I can get close. And honestly, my hair has never looked better, even if my wife still gives me the side-eye sometimes.
