Okay, so today I tried out this “Coleman Hawkins Basketball” thing. I’d heard some buzz about it, figured I’d give it a shot. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what to expect.

Getting Started
First, I searched around online. I wanted to get some background, you know? See what this Coleman Hawkins was all about. I found some stuff, read a bit, and started to get a feel for his style, his moves.
Then, I headed to the court. Just a local park, nothing fancy. I brought my own ball, obviously. Started with some basic dribbling. Just getting the feel of the ball, warming up my hands.
Putting It Into Practice
I tried to mimic some of the moves I’d seen. The key, I figured, was to keep it smooth, fluid. Like, don’t force anything. It wasn’t about speed, more about control.
- Dribbling: Low and controlled, keeping my head up.
- Crossovers: Practice those back and forth movements.
- Shooting: Smooth release, nice arc.
I am not going to lie. It was clumsy at first. My dribbling was all over the place. The ball felt like it had a mind of its own. I was air-balling shots, tripping over my own feet. Classic me.
But, I kept at it. I focused on one thing at a time. First, just getting the dribble right. Then, working on the crossover. Finally, I started trying to put it all together.
Making it Work
Slowly, very slowly, I started to feel a bit more comfortable. The dribbling got a little smoother. The crossovers felt a little less awkward. I even managed to sink a few baskets. It was not perfect. Not even close. But it felt like progress.
I spent a good hour out there. Just practicing, messing up, and trying again. The sun was starting to set, and my legs were starting to feel it. But I was having fun. That’s the main thing, right?
I am definitely going to keep practicing this. See if I can get better. Maybe I will never be as smooth as Coleman Hawkins, but who cares? It’s about the challenge, the process, the fun of it all.
