Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something called “stuff prediction” – basically, trying to guess what’s going to happen next. I’ve seen some cool demos online, and I figured, why not give it a shot myself? No fancy tools, just some good old-fashioned experimenting.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed some data. I decided to keep it super simple. I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down what I did throughout the day. Stuff like:
- Woke up, made coffee.
- Checked emails, scrolled through social media.
- Went for a walk, listened to a podcast.
- Got back, started working on this project.
- Ate lunch, watched a video.
You get the idea. Just regular, everyday activities. I figured this would be a good starting point – no need to overcomplicate things right away.
The “Prediction” Part
Now, for the actual “prediction.” I didn’t use any fancy algorithms or anything. I just looked at my list and tried to guess what I’d probably do next, based on what I’d already done. It was more like an educated guess than a real prediction, to be honest.
For example, after “Ate lunch, watched a video,” I thought, “Okay, I’ll probably feel a bit sluggish, so I’ll likely do something low-energy.” So, I wrote down “Browse the internet” as my prediction.
Checking My Work
Then, I waited a bit and actually did whatever I was going to do. Turns out, I did end up browsing the internet for a while. So, my first prediction was right! Beginner’s luck, maybe?
I kept doing this for the rest of the afternoon. Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong. It was pretty hit-or-miss, really. Like, after “Browse the internet,” I predicted I’d “Get back to work.” Nope. Ended up chatting with a friend online instead.
My Takeaways
So, what did I learn from this little experiment? Well, a few things:
- Predicting even simple stuff is harder than it looks. My own behavior is surprisingly unpredictable, even to me!
- Context is everything. My predictions were more accurate when I considered things like how I was feeling, what time of day it was, etc.
- This is just the tip of the iceberg. Real prediction models use way more data and way more sophisticated methods. This was just a playful first step.
It was a fun little exercise, though. Made me appreciate how complex even seemingly simple things like daily routines can be. Maybe I’ll try this again sometime with a bit more structure, or maybe even try learning some basic machine learning techniques. Who knows! For now, I’m calling it a day on this “stuff prediction” project.
