Getting Started with My Little Test
So, the other day, I got this idea stuck in my head. Called it my own little ‘survivor seris’. Wasn’t anything grand, really. Just wanted to see how some everyday stuff holds up when you, well, mess with it a bit. Got curious, you know? Had some free time on my hands too.

What I Rounded Up
First thing, I had to gather my ‘contestants’. Didn’t go crazy, just grabbed things lying around the house. Stuff like:
- A cheap plastic cup
- An old ceramic mug
- A metal spoon
- A wooden block I had from some old project
- One of those reusable shopping bags
Pretty basic stuff. Didn’t want to break anything valuable, obviously. Just things I wouldn’t cry over if they bit the dust.
The ‘Challenges’ I Set Up
Okay, so I needed some tests. Nothing scientific, mind you. Just some rough handling. I decided on a few simple things:
The Drop Test: Dropped each item from about waist height onto my garage floor. Concrete floor, so pretty unforgiving.
The Soak Test: Left the items (except the bag maybe) sitting in a bucket of water overnight. See if they got weird.
The Squish Test: Tried putting some weight on them. Not like, standing on them, but a decent amount of pressure with my hands or a heavy book.
Yeah, pretty simple series of events. Just wanted to see what gives.
How It All Went Down
Started with the drop test. The plastic cup? Bounced a bit, got a scuff, but totally fine. The ceramic mug? Yeah, that one didn’t make it. Shattered pretty good. Expected that, really. The spoon just clattered. No damage. Wooden block got a tiny dent on the corner. The shopping bag just sort of… landed.

Next up, the soak. Put the cup, spoon fragment (from the mug, oops), and wood block in water. Left ’em overnight. Next morning, the plastic cup was fine. Spoon fragment, obviously fine. The wood block? It swelled up a little bit, felt damp and heavier. Still solid though.
Finally, the squish test. Plastic cup deformed under pressure but popped back. Spoon didn’t care. Wood block was solid. The shopping bag, well, it just squished flat.
So, Who ‘Survived’?
Alright, looking back at my little ‘survivor seris’:
- Plastic Cup: Survived everything pretty much. Scuffed but functional.
- Ceramic Mug: Failed the first test spectacularly.
- Metal Spoon: Didn’t even blink. Tough little thing.
- Wood Block: Survived, but the water changed it a bit. Showed some weakness there.
- Reusable Bag: Survived, but it’s flexible, so ‘survived’ means different things. Didn’t tear though.
It wasn’t exactly rocket science. But it was kind of interesting seeing it happen right there. The metal spoon was the clear winner, totally unfazed. The ceramic mug was the biggest loser. The plastic cup did surprisingly well for being cheap plastic. The wood showed its natural limits with water.
Just a little afternoon project. Passed the time, you know? Sometimes you just gotta try stuff out yourself to see how it really is.
