So, I got into it with my neighbor the other day about the LSU lineup for the upcoming season. He was dead sure about who was starting where, especially on the offensive line. I was like, “Hold on, I thought they moved that one guy?” It got me thinking, and I figured, heck, I’ll just map out the depth chart myself. See what’s really going on.

Getting Started
First thing I did was just fire up the computer. Just went straight to searching, you know, simple stuff like “LSU football depth chart”. Man, you get a ton of results. News sites, fan blogs, forums – everybody’s got an opinion, right?
I started clicking around. Some sites looked kinda official, others were clearly just some dude’s best guess. It’s kinda messy trying to sort through it all. You see one name listed as a starter on one page, then buried third-string on another.
Putting It Together
I grabbed a notepad – yeah, old school, I know. Started jotting down positions. QB, RB, WR, the whole lot. Then, I tried to cross-reference. If three out of five sources said the same guy was starting at left tackle, I put him down as the likely number one.
- Checked the official team site first, but sometimes they’re vague until right before the season.
- Looked at reports from spring practice. Who was getting first-team reps?
- Read some articles from beat writers who are there every day. They usually have a decent feel for things.
- Even peeked at some fan forums, just to see the buzz, but you gotta take that with a grain of salt.
It took a while, honestly. Flipping between tabs, comparing names, trying to figure out spellings for some of the newer guys. It’s not like they just hand you a perfect list. You gotta piece it together like a puzzle.
What I Found (Or Think I Found)
After maybe an hour or so, I had something that looked like a depth chart. Filled in most of the spots, two or three deep. Quarterback situation looks interesting, got a couple of guys who could probably play. The defensive line seems like it’s got some new faces stepping up, which is good to see. Lots of young talent listed as backups, especially at receiver.
But here’s the thing, right? This stuff changes so fast. You work on this, get it all lined up, feel pretty good about it. Then, boom. Someone gets dinged up in practice. Someone else decides the transfer portal looks greener. A freshman comes in and blows everyone away in fall camp. Suddenly, that chart you spent time on is already out of date.
It’s kinda frustrating. Makes you realize how fluid this all is. Coaches play coy, injuries happen. It’s like trying to nail Jell-O to a wall sometimes. You think you got it, but it keeps shifting.
Anyway, I got my list. Showed it to my neighbor. We argued some more, but hey, that’s half the fun. Guess we’ll really see who’s right when they run out on that field for the first game. Until then, this is my best guess.
