So, the other day I was rummaging through some old boxes up in the attic. You know how it is, trying to declutter a bit. Stumbled upon my small stash of baseball cards from way back when.

Got me thinking about some of the players I used to watch. Big Papi, David Ortiz, definitely came to mind. Remember watching him hit those clutch home runs for the Red Sox? Good times.
That kinda sparked something. I got curious about his baseball cards, specifically the Topps ones. Topps always felt like the classic brand to me. So, I decided to see what was out there, maybe add one to my little collection.
Didn’t go too crazy, just started looking around online, mostly on those marketplace sites. Wasn’t looking for anything super rare or expensive, maybe just a nice rookie card or one from his prime years.
Digging into the Options
Man, there are a lot of David Ortiz Topps cards! Rookie cards, flagship cards, chrome versions, inserts… it gets a bit overwhelming if you’re not careful.
- Some looked pretty beat up, corners dinged, centering way off.
- Others were graded, locked up in those plastic cases, which bumps the price up quite a bit.
- Finding just a simple, decent-looking raw card took a bit more sifting than I expected.
Prices were all over the place too. Some asking crazy money, others seemed more reasonable. You really gotta compare and see what condition you’re actually getting.
After poking around for a few evenings, I zeroed in on one. Not his absolute rookie, which can get pricey, but a nice early-career Topps card. Found one from the early 2000s, looked clean in the pictures, good corners, decent centering. The seller seemed okay too.
Pulled the trigger on it. Wasn’t expensive, felt like a fair deal for a card of a player I enjoyed watching. It arrived a few days later, packed decently.
Final Thoughts
Holding it kinda took me back. It’s just cardboard, yeah, but it represents those games, those moments. It’s cool to have a little piece of that.

The whole process was kinda fun, like a mini-treasure hunt. Didn’t break the bank, just added a nice card to the box. Reminds me why I liked collecting in the first place – just simple enjoyment, remembering the players and the game. Nothing too serious.
Definitely happy I took the time to look for it. Nice little addition.
