Okay, so I wanted to talk about something I spent a bit of time on recently. It’s kinda specific, yeah? Diving into Dakota Kai’s relationships in wrestling. Not her real private life, obviously, but her character’s journey, the partnerships and the backstabbings, you know?

It started pretty randomly. I was flicking through shows, feeling a bit disconnected from some of the current stuff. You know how it is sometimes, storylines move fast or just don’t click. So, I thought, let me pick a wrestler and really follow their thread, see how things connect. Dakota Kai came to mind, especially with her return and everything.
My Process, Kinda Messy
So, what did I actually do? Well, it wasn’t very scientific, haha. Mostly involved falling down a video rabbit hole.
- I started digging up old NXT stuff. Remember Team Kick? Her partnership with Tegan Nox? I rewatched a bunch of their matches and promos.
- Then came that big heel turn at WarGames. Had to watch that again. Seeing how that relationship imploded was pretty central to her character for a while.
- Tracked her journey after that, the ups and downs, injuries, all that stuff.
- Then jumped to her main roster run, forming Damage CTRL with Bayley and Iyo Sky. Watched their formation, their big moments, trying to see how that dynamic worked compared to her earlier teams.
Honestly, it was a bit all over the place. Jumping between different eras, trying to piece together motivations that maybe weren’t even written consistently. It’s wrestling, right? Sometimes it feels like they just throw things together week by week.
What I Got Out Of It
It wasn’t some grand discovery, but doing this “practice,” just sitting down and tracing these connections, was interesting. You see the performer adapting, the character evolving (or sometimes devolving, let’s be real). You see how partnerships are built and broken for reactions.
Mostly, it reminded me how much of wrestling relies on these relationships. Friendships, rivalries, betrayals – that’s the stuff that hooks you in, more than just the moves sometimes. Following one person’s journey through these connections kinda highlights the whole messy, chaotic, but sometimes brilliant, storytelling of it all.
It filled some time, gave me a bit more appreciation for the long game wrestlers play with their characters, even when the booking feels weird. Just my little project, trying to make sense of the sprawling world of wrestling relationships through one person’s history. It’s more about the journey of watching and connecting dots than finding some perfect answer, I guess.
