So, I found myself wanting to lock down who the Celtics are actually starting these days. You hear commentary, see bits of games, but sometimes you just need to see the list, plain and simple. My brain felt a bit foggy on the exact five they’re rolling out consistently.

First thing I did, I just sat back and tried pulling it from memory. Okay, Tatum, obviously. And Brown. Those two are basically tattooed on the roster sheet. Then, the big fella, Porziņģis, yeah, he’s gotta be there when healthy. Derrick White, he’s been solid, definitely starting. Then I paused… who’s running the point officially in that starting group? Ah, right, Jrue Holiday. Took me a second, but I got there. Felt like flexing a rusty muscle.
Still, you know how it is, wanted to double-check. Didn’t want to be confidently wrong. Fired up the old search engine real quick. Typed it in. Yep, looks about right. The consensus confirms my memory, thankfully. It’s usually:
- Jrue Holiday
- Derrick White
- Jaylen Brown
- Jayson Tatum
- Kristaps Porziņģis
Sometimes, if Porziņģis is out, old reliable Al Horford steps in. Makes sense. Good veteran presence.
Looking at that list, it’s a pretty strong group on paper. Lots of scoring, good defense, especially with Holiday and White in the backcourt. Seems balanced. But paper doesn’t win games, does it? We’ve seen stacked teams fizzle out before.
It’s funny, I remember years ago, following this stuff meant waiting for the newspaper sports section the next day. You’d unfold it, check the box scores, see who started, how many minutes they played. Felt more deliberate, somehow. Now it’s just instant info on your phone. Faster, yeah, but maybe less satisfying? I don’t know.
Anyway, that was my little exercise for the day. Getting the Celtics starting five straight in my head. It’s one of those small routines, like checking the weather. Doesn’t change much day-to-day usually, but you feel like you need to know. Now I know. At least until the next injury or trade rumor pops up.
