Alright, so I got this idea buzzing in my head the other day. Wanted to see if I could make Eivor feel like a real powerhouse, you know, someone absolutely brutal in a fight. Kinda like that “Max the Impaler” vibe, just relentless. So, I fired up Valhalla to give it a shot.

Getting Started with the Build
First thing, I messed around with Eivor’s look a bit, trying to get something that felt intimidating. Didn’t spend ages, just wanted the right feel. Then, weapons. Right away, I thought, gotta be dual-wielding. Something fast and nasty. Started off with a couple of axes, seemed fitting for a Viking.
I remembered seeing some cool gear sets online, like that Huldufolk set people mentioned. Looked kinda shadowy and mean, thought that might fit the theme later on, but early game, you grab what you can find, right? So I just focused on finding gear that boosted melee or speed.
Leveling Up and Skills
Okay, the skill tree. This took some time. Every time I leveled up, I dumped points into anything that made me hit harder or faster. Focused heavily on the melee skills, obviously. Things that helped with dual-wielding were top priority.
- Dual-wield bonuses
- Stamina improvements (gotta keep swinging!)
- Melee damage boosts
- Maybe some stealth perks just to get close
It actually felt pretty good, slicing through enemies. Eventually, I hit that point where the main skill tree was done. Felt like quite an achievement! After that, every level just let me pump points into those Mastery levels Ubisoft added. You know, the Bear, Wolf, and Raven ones. I mostly just kept boosting the melee (Bear) stuff. Someone said the max level is like 475 or something crazy? Long way to go for that, but filling out the main tree was the first big step.
Trying it Out in Combat
Taking the build into actual fights was fun. Charging into a group of Saxons with two axes swinging felt great. Very chaotic, very brutal. Exactly what I was going for. Later on, I decided to switch things up and tried dual wielding seax daggers, like some folks suggested. They’re super fast, really felt like I was just overwhelming enemies with quick strikes. Felt different from axes, more… surgical, but still really aggressive.
Sometimes bigger enemies were a pain, needed to dodge more, but mostly it was about getting in close and just unloading attacks. Using abilities that stunned or knocked enemies down helped keep the pressure on.
Upgrading the Gear
Finding the right gear and upgrading it became the next big thing. You gotta collect a ton of materials, leather, iron, the usual stuff. Spent a fair bit of time raiding and looting chests. Took my favourite axes and later the seax daggers to Gunnar the blacksmith constantly.
I kept hearing about this new top tier gear, Divine Rarity they call it. That became the long-term goal. Getting my weapons and armor pieces up to that level takes a lot of resources, especially those special ingots. It’s a grind, but seeing those stats jump up makes it feel worth it.

Final Thoughts
So yeah, that was my process trying to build this “Max the Impaler” style Eivor. Lots of focus on fast, dual-wield attacks, constantly upgrading gear, and sinking points into melee skills and mastery. It’s a really aggressive playstyle, not very subtle, but man is it satisfying when you just tear through a camp. Still working on getting all that top-tier Divine gear, but the journey there, building Eivor into this close-combat monster, has been a blast.
