Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show, and one thing I always struggle with is coming up with a decent team name. I mean, you want something that sounds cool, maybe a little intimidating, but also isn’t totally lame, right?

The Struggle Was Real
First, I just started brainstorming. I literally grabbed a pen and paper (yeah, old school) and started jotting down anything that came to mind. I thought about my favorite players, my favorite team (go [Your Favorite Team]!), and even just random baseball terms. Like, “The Curveballs” or “The Southpaws.” Pretty generic, I know. I even considered something based on my hometown, but that felt a little too cheesy.
Then, I tried to get a little more creative. I started looking at team names from other sports for inspiration. “The Raptors” and “The Warriors” sounded powerful. Maybe I could do something similar, but baseball-related. “The Sluggers”? “The Aces”? Still not feeling it. I even looked up lists of “cool team names” online, which was a total waste of time. Mostly just a bunch of overused stuff.
Diving Deeper
- I thought about nicknames, like “The Big Train” for Walter Johnson. But that only appeals to hardcore baseball history buffs.
- I messed around with alliteration. Like, “The Bashing Bombers” or “The Slamming Sluggers.” A little better, but still kind of meh.
- Then I tried to make it punny – but I am not good at this stuff.
The Eureka Moment (Kind Of)
Finally, I started thinking about what kind of team I was building in Diamond Dynasty. I was focusing on power hitters and guys who could absolutely rake. I wanted a name that reflected that. So, I started playing around with words like “power,” “slug,” “bomb,” etc.
That’s when it hit me. Not a home run, but a solid double. I combined a few ideas and came up with a few options that I actually liked:
- The Power Surge: It sounds cool, implies lots of home runs, and isn’t too over-the-top.
- The Bomb Squad: Maybe a bit cliché, but it gets the point across.
I ended up going with “The Power Surge” for now. It felt right. But honestly, I might change it next week. That’s the beauty of Diamond Dynasty, right? You can always rebrand!

Lessons Learned
This whole process taught me a few things:
- Don’t overthink it. Sometimes the simplest names are the best.
- Get inspiration from everywhere, but don’t just copy.
- Consider your team’s identity when choosing a name.
What’s Next?
Now, the real challenge is creating a logo and designing some uniforms. But that’s a story for another day!
