Getting the News
So, I was just scrolling through my phone this morning, you know, trying to wake up properly. Drank some coffee, checked the usual stuff. Then I saw it pop up on a local news feed. Something about a VSU player getting arrested. My first thought was just, “Oh boy, here we go again.” Didn’t even click right away, just kinda let it sink in.

Initial Thoughts and Buzz
Honestly, wasn’t totally shocked. You hear whispers, you see things around town sometimes. Doesn’t make it right, of course, just… less surprising than maybe it should be. I remembered seeing some guys out late last weekend, looking a bit rowdy, wondered briefly if it was related. Probably not, but your mind makes connections, right?
Then my phone started buzzing a bit. A couple texts from friends who also live around here or went to VSU back in the day.
- “Did you see the news?”
- “Another one…”
- “Wonder what happened this time.”
Seems like everyone caught wind of it pretty fast. That’s how it goes in a smaller town, I guess. News travels quick, especially when it involves the university teams. They’re always under a microscope.
Remembering Something Else
It actually made me think back to my own college days, though not at VSU. Different place, same stuff happened. We had a star basketball player, great guy mostly, but he got into some trouble. It split the campus. People defending him, others calling for him to be kicked out. It gets messy fast. You saw how people picked sides, how the administration tried to handle it quietly.
I worked part-time at a campus diner back then. You’d hear all sorts of talk from coaches, students, professors grabbing food. Lots of pressure on those kids, from coaches, from boosters, even from themselves. Sometimes they make dumb choices. Doesn’t excuse it, but you see how it can happen. We served some of those players. Some were polite, focused. Others… well, they acted like the rules didn’t apply to them even back then.
Wrapping Up My Thoughts
So yeah, seeing that headline today just brought back some of those old feelings. Disappointment, mostly. You hope these young folks do well, represent the school okay. When something like this happens, it’s just a letdown for everyone involved. The player, their family, the team, the school, even the community that supports them. I haven’t dug into the full details yet, probably will later. Right now, just processing that initial newsflash and thinking about how these things seem to repeat themselves. Just gotta wait and see how it all shakes out, I suppose.
