My Little Adventure with an Adley Rutschman Card
So, I was just messing around the other day, you know? Walked into a local shop, saw some packs of baseball cards. Haven’t bought any in ages, but thought, what the heck. Grabbed a few, just for the nostalgia trip.

Got home, sat down, started ripping them open. Mostly the usual stuff, players I kinda recognized, some I didn’t. Then, in one of the last packs, I pulled this card. Adley Rutschman. The name rang a bell, heard some buzz about him being a big deal catcher for the Orioles.
I took a closer look at it. Didn’t look like a basic card. Had a nice shine to it, maybe some kind of parallel or insert, I’m not really up on all the new types they have now. Pulled it out carefully. Checked the corners – looked pretty sharp. Centering seemed okay to my old eyes, maybe a tiny bit off but not bad. Surface looked clean, no obvious scratches or dings.
My first thought was, huh, this might actually be decent. I immediately went looking for one of those soft sleeves and a top loader. Found some in an old box. Slipped the card in the sleeve, then carefully put it into the hard plastic top loader. Felt better having it protected.
Then I got curious. Went online, did some searching around, just typing his name and ‘baseball card’ into the search bar. Saw a lot of different cards for him, some going for some serious cash, especially the graded ones or the really rare autographs. Mine wasn’t anything that fancy, but it seemed like a solid rookie year card, maybe a bit better than just the base version.
I thought about sending it off to get graded. You know, put it in one of those sealed plastic cases with a number grade. But honestly? Seemed like a lot of hassle and extra cost right now. Maybe later if I get more serious again.
For now? Here’s what I did:
- Found the card.
- Checked its condition visually.
- Put it in a protective sleeve and top loader immediately.
- Did a quick check online to see what kind of card it might be.
- Decided against grading it for the time being.
So yeah, that’s my little story with the Adley Rutschman card. It’s sitting on my desk right now in its protector. Kinda cool finding something interesting like that totally by chance. Reminds me of being a kid again, just for a moment. Just a small piece of cardboard, but it was a fun little process.
