Alright, buckle up, because I’m about to spill the beans on our Vibe Gymnastics Summer Camp experiment. It was a wild ride, lemme tell ya.

So, it all started with a crazy idea. We were sitting around, brainstorming ways to get more kids involved in gymnastics during the summer. Regular classes are great, but summer’s different, right? Kids want something more… intense, more fun, more vibey.
The Prep Work: From Zero to… Almost Hero
First things first, the planning. I spent like, a week straight just researching different gymnastics camps, looking at their schedules, activities, pricing – the whole shebang. I wanted to see what worked, what didn’t, and how we could make ours stand out. This meant lots of Google searches, lurking on other gyms’ websites, and even calling a couple of them pretending to be a parent. Sneaky, I know!
- Curriculum Design: This was a headache. We wanted a mix of skill-building and just plain fun. So, we mapped out daily themes, like “Tumbling Tuesday” and “Flexibility Friday.” I even roped in one of our coaches who’s a total yoga guru to lead some stretching sessions.
- Marketing Mayhem: Gotta get the word out, right? I whipped up some flyers (using Canva, bless its heart), spammed social media, and even convinced the local community center to let us put up a poster. And of course, sent out a bunch of emails.
- Staffing Struggles: Finding qualified coaches who were also available all summer was tough. Luckily, we managed to snag a few college students who were home for the summer and eager to make some extra cash. Plus, our regular coaches stepped up to help out.
The Camp Itself: Controlled Chaos
Okay, day one rolls around, and I’m a nervous wreck. Will anyone even show up? Will the kids hate it? Turns out, my worries were mostly for naught. We had a decent turnout, and the kids seemed genuinely excited.
Each day started with a warm-up and some basic conditioning. Then, we’d dive into the skill-specific activities. Tumbling, bars, beam – we covered it all. But we also threw in some fun stuff like obstacle courses, games, and even a “gymnastics talent show” on the last day. That was hilarious.
There were definitely hiccups. One kid got a minor scrape (band-aid to the rescue!), another got homesick (lots of hugs and reassurance), and we had one epic equipment malfunction when the spring board decided to give up the ghost. But overall, things went surprisingly smoothly.
Lessons Learned (the Hard Way)
Alright, time for the real talk. Here’s what I learned from this whole experience:

- Over-planning is a thing. I spent so much time meticulously planning every detail that I forgot to be flexible. Next time, I’ll leave more room for spontaneity.
- Kids are brutally honest. If they’re bored, they’ll let you know. Loudly. So, keep things engaging and switch it up often.
- Snacks are crucial. Never underestimate the power of a well-timed snack break. Hangry kids are no fun.
- Communication is key. Keep parents in the loop about what’s going on. Send daily updates, photos, and videos. It’ll save you a lot of headaches.
Would I do it again? Absolutely. It was exhausting, stressful, and occasionally chaotic, but it was also incredibly rewarding. Seeing those kids learn new skills, build confidence, and just have fun was worth all the effort. Plus, we made some decent money, which is always a bonus.
So, if you’re thinking about starting your own gymnastics camp, go for it! Just be prepared for a wild ride. And don’t forget the snacks!
