Alright, let’s talk about how I managed to listen to Northwestern football on the radio. It wasn’t as straightforward as you might think!

So, first off, I’m a huge Northwestern Wildcats fan. Living outside of Chicago makes catching the games a bit of a pain. I wanted to listen to the games, you know, the old-fashioned way – on the radio. I started by just firing up my regular radio, hoping I could catch something. Nada. Static. Realized I needed a plan.
Step one: Google it, duh! I searched “Northwestern football radio broadcast” and quickly landed on WGN Radio 720’s website. They’re Chicago’s Very Own and the official home for Wildcats football. Awesome!
Next hurdle, I don’t live in Chicago, so getting WGN over the air isn’t happening. That meant figuring out how to stream it. Their website had a “listen live” button. Score! Clicked it, and…nothing. Pop-up blocker. Blergh!
- Disabled the pop-up blocker.
- Clicked the “listen live” button again.
- Still nothing!
Okay, time for a new approach. I figured they must be using some kind of streaming service. Did some digging around the WGN website and found a mention of their app. Downloaded it to my phone. FINALLY, progress! Got the app installed and found the live stream. The game wasn’t on yet, just some talk show. But at least I knew it worked!
Game Day! I made sure to open the app well before kickoff, you know, to avoid any last-minute tech meltdowns. The pre-game show was on, giving me all the latest updates. Then… the sweet sound of the kickoff! Listened to the whole game while I was grilling burgers in the backyard. Perfect Saturday!
Now, here’s the funny part. The app kept cutting out every so often. Super annoying! Turns out, my Wi-Fi signal wasn’t the strongest out back. So, I dragged my portable Bluetooth speaker closer to the house to get a better signal. Problem solved!
Learned my lesson. For the next game, I made sure I had a full Wi-Fi signal outside before the game even started. Also, I downloaded a few other radio apps just in case the WGN one decided to be a pain again. Preparedness is key!
And that’s how I listen to Northwestern football on the radio (well, technically, via streaming). It took a bit of messing around, but now I’ve got a system that works. Go ‘Cats!
