Okay, so the other day I got curious. The WNBA season was going on, and I started wondering, who’s actually the tallest player out there right now, like, for 2023? Seemed like a simple enough question.

Fired up my computer, opened a browser. First thing I did was just type in “tallest wnba player 2023”. Pretty straightforward, right?
Well, the first name that popped up everywhere was Malgorzata Dydek. Margo Dydek. Yeah, she was super tall, like 7-foot-2! Only player ever over 7 feet tall in the league. Impressive stuff. But here’s the thing, she hasn’t played in ages. That wasn’t what I asked! I wanted to know about 2023.
So, had to scroll past all the historical stuff. It’s kinda annoying how search sometimes gives you the all-time records when you’re asking for now.
Digging for the Current Info
I tweaked my search a bit, maybe added “currently playing” or something. Started seeing some names that were actually on rosters for 2023. It wasn’t like one clear answer immediately jumped out, though. Different places mentioned different players.
- Saw Brittney Griner mentioned a lot. She’s definitely up there, around 6-foot-9.
- Then there was Han Xu, also listed around 6-foot-9 or maybe 6-foot-10 depending on where you looked.
It took a little bit of clicking around, checking a few sports sites and roster pages. You know how it is, trying to figure out which source is the most up-to-date for this specific season.
Eventually, it seemed like Han Xu was generally cited as being slightly taller, or at least tied for the tallest active player during the 2023 season. Around that 6-foot-10 mark.
So yeah, that was my little search adventure. Started with a simple question, got a history lesson first, then had to poke around a bit to find the current answer. It’s pretty amazing thinking about players that tall dominating the court. Anyway, figured I’d share how I tracked that down.
