Okay, so I decided to jump into MLB The Show 24 today, feeling pretty good, ready to knock out some challenges. There was this one particular moment I’d been eyeing, looked tough but doable, you know?
Getting Started
Fired up the PS5, loaded the game. Went straight into Diamond Dynasty, then into the Moments section. Found the specific one I wanted to beat. I think it was one of those multi-game moments where you needed, like, 8 hits and 2 XBH over three games on Veteran difficulty. Usually, Veteran is manageable for me, so I thought, “Alright, let’s do this.”
The First Attempt
Jumped into the first game. My approach at the plate felt okay initially. Got a single early on. Felt like I was on track. But then, man, the CPU pitcher just started dotting corners. Pop-up after pop-up. Ground out straight to the fielder. Ended that first game with only one hit. Not a great start when you need 8 total.
Second game started a bit better. Managed to lace a double into the gap. Okay, progress! Need more hits though. Struck out looking on a fastball right down the middle – totally misread that one. Frustrating. Scraped together another single later. So, going into the third game, I needed, what, 5 hits? Including another XBH? Tall order.
Third game… disaster. Couldn’t hit anything squarely. Weak grounders, fly balls that died at the warning track. The pressure kinda got to me, I think. Started swinging at pitches I shouldn’t have. Finished the moment, failed. Way short of the goal.
Trying Again (and Again)
Alright, shake it off. Restarted the moment. Told myself to be more patient this time. Wait for my pitch.
This time, game one was slightly better. Got two singles. Okay, better pace. Game two, hit a long fly ball… caught at the wall. Argh! Managed another single later. Still felt behind the curve. Needed a massive game three.
Game three again. Focused. Really tried to see the ball. Lined one hard… right at the shortstop. Double play. Just bad luck sometimes, you know? Scratched out one more hit, but that was it. Failed. Again.
- Attempt 1: Failed (Not enough hits)
- Attempt 2: Failed (Still short, bad luck mixed in)
Calling It Quits (For Now)
Did one more quick attempt. Almost rage-quit halfway through the second game. My timing was just off. Everything was either too early or too late. Popped up constantly. It just wasn’t clicking. The CPU defense felt like Gold Glovers at every position.
So yeah, after that third try fizzled out hard in game two, I just backed out. Challenge failed. Didn’t even finish the sequence. Sometimes you just don’t have it, I guess. Put the controller down. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow, maybe not. It’s just a game, but man, it can be annoying when you can’t beat something you feel like you should be able to. Oh well. That’s baseball, even virtual baseball.
