You know, I always see these big guys on TV, them football players. Always wonder, how big are they really? Today, let’s talk about them NFL quarterbacks, the ones throwing the ball. How big are they, on average? This is what I found out.
These quarterback fellas, they’re pretty tall, I tell ya. Most of ’em are ’round 6 feet 3 inches, some even taller. That’s taller than most folks I know! Imagine that, standin’ next to one of ’em. You’d be lookin’ straight up!
Now, I heard tell of one fella, name of Dan McGwire. Heard he was the tallest one ever, 6 feet 8 inches! Lord have mercy, that’s a big ‘un. Could probably see clear over a crowd of folks with no problem.
Then there’s the other end of the stick. I heard there was one, Eddie LeBaron, who was only 5 feet 7 inches. He might have been the shortest quarterback. Still a good size fella but not as big as most of them quarterbacks.
And their weight? Well, they ain’t skinny little things, that’s for sure. Most of ’em weigh ’round 225 pounds. That’s a lot of muscle, I reckon. Gotta be strong to throw that ball and get tackled by them other big fellas.
So, the average size of NFL quarterback, you ask? Here’s what it seems to be:
- Height: ‘Round 6 feet 3 inches, give or take.
- Weight: ‘Bout 225 pounds.
Now, you might be wonderin’ ’bout them kickers. The ones who kick the ball through them tall posts. They ain’t quite as big as the quarterbacks, usually. Most of them kickers are around 6 feet tall. I heard the tallest ones are these Carlson brothers, 6 feet 5 inches each. Then there is this Blake Grupe fella, he plays for the Bengals, I hear. Only 5 feet 7 inches. They come in all sizes too!
And what about them wide receivers? The ones catchin’ the ball? They say the average height for them is about 6 feet. A little shorter than the average NFL player, I hear. They need to be quick on their feet. They are normally not that heavy, just enough to catch the ball and run.
These quarterbacks, they gotta be tall to see over them other players, I guess. And they gotta be strong to throw that ball far and get back up after they get knocked down. It ain’t an easy job, that’s for sure. They are big fellas but they need to be quick too.
So if you ever see one of them NFL quarterbacks up close, you’ll know they’re big fellas. Tall and strong, most of ’em. But there are some shorter ones, too. Just goes to show, it ain’t all about size. You gotta have the skill, too. The skill to throw the ball and read the field.
It takes all kinds to make a football team, that’s for sure. Big ones, small ones, tall ones, short ones. But them quarterbacks, they’re usually on the bigger side. These days, it’s rare to find quarterbacks much taller than 6 feet 6 inches. They say it’s ’cause they ain’t as quick on their feet if they are too tall.
I remember watchin’ them games on the TV, seein’ them quarterbacks get tackled. Makes me wince every time. But they always get back up, most of ’em. Tough fellas, they are. Gotta be tough to play that game. They need to be quick and make fast decisions. Or they can get hurt real bad.
So, there you have it. The average size of an NFL quarterback. Big fellas, most of ’em. But not always the biggest on the team. It seems the average height for a quarterback is over 6 feet 3 inches. That is taller than the average football player, I hear. They need to be tall to see everything that is going on in the field. But height is not everything, they need to be strong too!
Well, I reckon that’s enough talk about football for one day. My old bones are gettin’ tired. Time for me to sit down and rest a spell. But next time you see a football game, you think about how big them quarterbacks are. And how tough they gotta be to play that game.
