He used to make, oh, I don’t know, maybe ten million a year? Something like that. That was his old deal, his rookie deal they call it. Now he’s movin’ up in the world. And his salary is gonna be huge! More than ten million a year, that is. That’s gonna be his, what’s that fancy word? “Base salary”.
This Scottie, he’s a good player, though. I’ve seen him on the TV. He runs fast, jumps high, throws that ball good. They even gave him an award a while back, somethin’ called Rookie of the Year. Means he was the best new player, you know? That must have been back in 2021, I think. He earned it, I reckon. He’s a good kid.

This new contract, it’s a big deal for that Raptors team, too. They want him to stay, of course. He’s their star, you see. They’re puttin’ all their eggs in one basket, as they say. Hope it works out for ’em.
And this other young fella, Ja’Kobe somethin’. Walter, I think. They say he’s pretty good, too. They picked him up, number 19, they said. He’s from that Baylor Bears team. Still gettin’ used to things, I reckon. He’s scorin’ some, but not as much as Scottie. Maybe seven points a game? Somethin’ like that. He’ll learn.
They signed this contract back on July 2, 2022, the first one I mean. Some other player, Immanuel Quickley, he signed a big one, too, $175 million! Big money all around! Then there is RJ Barrett, he got traded. And Bruce Brown, they did somethin’ called “exercised an option”. I don’t know what that means, but it sure sounds important!

This Scottie Barnes, he is somethin’ else. They say he’s gonna be a big star. Already is, I guess. And now, with all this money, he’s gonna be set for life. Good for him. He deserves it. Works hard, plays hard. That’s what you gotta do.
It’s a lot of money, though. More money than I can even fathom. But I guess that’s how it is these days. These young folks, they make more money in a year than most folks make in a lifetime. It’s a different world, that’s for sure. But hey, good for Scottie. Hope he enjoys it. He’s earned it, I reckon.
