That Ken Griffey Jr., I tell ya, what a ball player! Back in my day, everyone was collectin’ them baseball cards. Now my grandson, he’s all into this Ken Griffey Jr. fella. Says his rookie cards are worth a pretty penny. So, I says, “how much is that Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card worth?” Gotta know what all the fuss is about, right?

Well, turns out, there’s a whole bunch of these Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards. And they ain’t all worth the same, not by a long shot. Some are like findin’ a four-leaf clover, rare as hen’s teeth, and others are common as dirt, worth about as much too.
One of them fancy ones, they call it the 1989 Bowman Tiffany #220. Now, I don’t know what Tiffany means, sounds like some fancy jewelry store. But apparently, this card, if it’s in good shape, is like gold. They got this thing called PSA, sounds like some government thing. If that card gets a PSA 10, it is good as gold. But if it gets a PSA 9 it ain’t worth as much. It’s a mighty big difference just by one number.

They say this Bowman Tiffany thing was a special one. Not many made, makes ’em worth more, I reckon. Supply and demand, my old man used to say. He was a farmer, knew all about supply and demand with his crops. Less supply, higher price.

Then there’s this other card, the 1989 Bowman, but not the Tiffany one. That one could be worth something too. I don’t know, they are all these numbers that are hard to keep straight. But if it is a Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card it is probably worth something!
And this Topps, now that’s a name I remember. Used to see them Topps cards all the time. They say there’s a 1990 Topps Ken Griffey Jr. card. This one, though, it’s got some kind of problem with the printin’. Something about an arm print defect, whatever that means. They say it ain’t worth much, maybe ten, twenty bucks if you’re lucky.

I guess this Ken Griffey Jr. fella, he started playin’ back in 1989. Made his debut, they call it. Hit a double in his first at-bat. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? I remember my first time churnin’ butter, wasn’t nearly as excitin’.
This whole baseball card thing is a lot more complicated than I thought. You gotta know the year, the brand, the number, the condition. My goodness, it is so much work! It’s like pickin’ the best apples from the tree. You gotta look at ’em real close, check for bruises, make sure they ain’t wormy.

So, how much is a Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card worth? Well, it depends. Could be a little, could be a lot. That 1989 Bowman Tiffany #220, that’s the big one. If you got one of them in mint condition, you might be sittin’ on a small fortune. This fella said he saw one sell for over eight thousand dollars. That is enough money to make me spit! But most of them other cards, they ain’t worth nearly as much.
You gotta get ’em graded, they say. By that PSA. Like gettin’ your eggs graded at the market. They check ’em for quality, give ’em a number. Higher the number, the better the card, the more it’s worth. Who knew?
It’s all a gamble, I suppose. Like plantin’ seeds and hopin’ for rain. You might get a good crop, you might not. But one thing’s for sure, this Ken Griffey Jr., he sure made a name for himself. And his rookie cards, well, they’re a part of history now. Like an old quilt, each one tells a story.
I still don’t rightly understand all this card business, but it’s interestin’ nonetheless. Keeps the grandkids busy, I suppose. Better than them gettin’ into trouble, that’s for sure. And who knows, maybe one day they’ll find a card worth a fortune. Then they can buy me that new rocking chair I’ve been wantin’!
