Okay, so I was watching some old baseball highlights the other day, and David Ortiz, “Big Papi,” came up. That guy was a legend, right? Got me thinking, how much is the dude worth? I mean, he was huge in the MLB, and those guys make bank. So I went on a little mission to find out.
First, I started poking around the usual spots. You know, those celebrity net worth websites. One of them, and it seemed pretty legit, said Big Papi is sitting on around $55 million. That’s a lot of dough! It said most of it came from his baseball salary, which makes sense. He played for, what, like 20 years? Those MLB contracts are insane.
Then I dug a little deeper. I found some stuff about his endorsement deals. Apparently, he was making around $5 million a year just from those! And some of those deals are gonna keep paying him even though he’s retired. Smart guy.
- I mean the guy was a 10-time All-Star.
- He won 7 Silver Slugger awards.
- He’s in the 500 Home Run Club.
- He helped the Red Sox win two World Series, like a boss, during 2007 and 2013.
And here is a fun fact, it seems like he was calling everyone “Papi” because he kept forgetting their names. A Red Sox announcer named Jerry Remy, gave him the nickname because of this.
Anyway, it looks like David Ortiz did pretty well for himself. He earned it, though. The guy was a beast on the field and a fan favorite. And you know what? He seems like a cool dude, too. Always smiling, always having fun. Good for him, living the good life after baseball.
