Alright, so I’ve been messing around with my putting grip lately, specifically trying out a flat putter grip. Thought I’d share my experience ’cause why not, right?
I started by doing some basic research. Found out there’s a whole bunch of different grips out there, like pistol, circular, and now this flat one I’m trying out.
Then I started looking at what the pros use. I saw that Rory McIlroy uses a SuperStroke Traxion Pistol GT Tour, which is more of a pistol grip. It’s supposed to help lock in your upper hand and keep grip pressure even, something I struggle with. I’m a pretty average golfer, but I thought if it’s good enough for Rory, maybe I should give a pistol grip a try sometime. But for now, I’m all about this flat grip.
So, I ordered a flat grip online from one of the many companies making them. When it arrived, I took off my old grip. Putting on the new one wasn’t too tough.
- First, I lined up the flat part of the grip with the putter face.
- Then I used a solvent and slid it on.
- Finally I had to wait for it to dry.
Once it was ready, I went out to the putting green to try it out. First thing I noticed was how different it felt in my hands. The flat surface gave me a really clear feeling of where my hands were, which was kinda cool. I practiced for a while, just getting a feel for it. I started with some short putts, then gradually moved further back.
After a few sessions, I started noticing something. My putts seemed more consistent. It felt like the flat grip was helping me keep my hands more stable and my stroke smoother. My alignment also felt better. I was hitting my lines more often, which was a big plus. It wasn’t a magical fix or anything, but it definitely made a difference.
What I found
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the flat putter grip. It’s not a miracle worker, but it’s helped me improve my consistency and alignment. It might not be for everyone, but if you’re looking to change up your putting grip, I’d say it’s worth giving it a shot. You might be surprised at how much it can help. I might even try a pistol grip down the road, but for now, I’m sticking with the flat one. It’s working for me, and that’s what matters, right?
Anyway, that’s my little story about messing with a flat putter grip. Hope it was helpful or at least a little entertaining. Now, I’m gonna go hit some more putts. See ya!
