So, I’ve been digging into this whole “who counters Hanzo” thing in Overwatch lately, and boy, has it been a journey. Let me walk you through what I’ve been up to.
First off, I jumped into a bunch of games, trying to get a feel for Hanzo’s strengths and weaknesses. I mean, the guy’s a sniper, right? So, naturally, I figured anyone who can close the distance fast or mess with his aim would be a good counter. I started experimenting with different heroes in quick play. No pressure, just trying to see what sticks.
- Sombra was my first thought. Sneaky, can hack him to stop those annoying abilities, and her teleport lets her get right up in his face. I had some decent success with her, especially when I caught Hanzos out of position.
- Then I tried Winston. I thought, “big monkey, big shield, he can just jump on Hanzo and mess him up, right?” And yeah, that worked pretty well. I managed to isolate a few Hanzos and take them out before they could react.
- Pharah and Echo, oh man, they’re a different story. I figured their ability to fly would make them tough targets for Hanzo. And I was right. I spent a good chunk of time just hovering around, dodging arrows, and raining down damage. It felt pretty good, not gonna lie.
But here’s the thing, I also ran into some really good Hanzo players. Like, these guys were predicting my every move. I’d be zipping around as Tracer, thinking I’m all slick, and BAM! One-shot. It was frustrating, but also kind of impressive, if I’m being honest.
Other Stuff I Found
I did some digging online, just to see what other people were saying. Apparently, some folks think Widowmaker is a good counter, but it’s like, a skill matchup. If the Hanzo is good, he can still mess you up. I even saw some people recommending Orisa, saying she can help her team deal more damage to Hanzo and stuff. That’s a bit beyond my skill level, though, haha.
I played a few more matches, focusing on what I learned. Sometimes I switched heroes mid-game if I saw a Hanzo was causing trouble. Other times I just stuck with my pick and tried to outplay him. It was a mixed bag, but I definitely got better at dealing with him.
I read that one of the big things is just not letting Hanzo get comfortable. If he’s got time to line up his shots, you’re toast. So I made it my mission to keep the pressure on, whether it was with Sombra’s hacks, Winston’s jumps, or Pharah and Echo’s aerial assaults. But like, Roadhog? He can apparently take a beating, which might be useful. I haven’t tested that yet, but it sounds wild.
At the end of the day, I realized there’s no magic bullet. It’s all about adapting, learning the matchups, and, you know, actually hitting your shots. I’m still no pro, but I definitely feel more confident going up against Hanzo now. It’s been a fun little project, and I’m curious to see what else I can figure out. Maybe I’ll try that Orisa thing after all, who knows?
