Okay, so I’ve been looking into this whole Boston Celtics mascot thing, and it’s kinda wild. You know the mascot, Lucky the Leprechaun? I wanted to see what the deal was with him.
First, I started by just doing a simple search online. I typed in “Boston Celtics mascot” and hit enter. Boom, tons of stuff about this Lucky guy popped up.
Then, I started reading through some articles and stuff. It turns out that the whole “Celtics” name and the leprechaun mascot are because Boston has a ton of Irish people. They also mentioned some old-school basketball team called the Original Celtics, which I guess is also part of it.
- Clicked on a few more links.
- Found out that Lucky wasn’t always around.
- Discovered that he was introduced in 2003, so he’s a relatively new guy.
The first guy to wear the costume was some dude named Damon Lee Blust. He did it from 2003 until 2009. After him, another guy named Kristofer “Kit” Ackermann took over in 2010, and I guess he’s still doing it now.
What I found
So, after spending some time digging around, here’s the gist of it. This Lucky the Leprechaun guy is supposed to bring good luck, obviously. He’s all about the Irish heritage in Boston, and he’s apparently a pretty big deal at the games. Who knew a mascot could have such a story?
