Alright, so I’ve been messing around with MLB The Show 24, and let me tell you, the difficulty levels in this game are a whole different ball game, no pun intended. I started out thinking, “Oh, I’ve played sports games before, how hard can it be?” Boy, was I in for a surprise.
First, I jumped into the settings menu. You gotta find the gameplay section, and then you’ll see where you can tweak the difficulty. I decided to start with “Casual” because, you know, I wanted to get a feel for the game. It says it’s all about “learning the game,” and that’s exactly what it was. Pretty easy to hit the ball, the computer wasn’t throwing any crazy pitches, and I was winning games without breaking a sweat.
But then, things got real. I bumped it up to “Rookie.” The description says, “A slightly more challenging gameplay experience for newer users.” And yeah, it was definitely more challenging. Suddenly, I wasn’t hitting home runs every other at-bat. The AI started mixing up its pitches, and I actually had to think about my strategy. It wasn’t just about swinging at everything; I had to make smart decisions.
- Casual: Super chill, great for learning the ropes.
- Rookie: Okay, now we’re playing some actual baseball.
- Simulation: This one is supposed to feel like a real MLB game. I haven’t reached there yet!
One thing I did found out about dynamic difficulty, you can reset it. So you head to the settings menu, find the gameplay section, and there should be an option to reset your dynamic difficulty. Easy peasy!
I also learned that the difficulty you choose affects some kind of multiplier for in-game rewards, like PXP. I saw some folks online saying that offline mode has a multiplier between 1.0x and 1.4x, depending on the difficulty. It seems like Rookie gives you 1.0x, and then it goes up by 0.1x for each level above that. I’m still not 100% on how that works, but it’s something I’m gonna look into more.
I mainly play Road to the Show (RTTS), and I’ve noticed that the difficulty can change based on how well you’re doing. I read about some players were fluctuating between Legend+ and Hall of Fame+, but I did not reach there yet. I’m still figuring out the sweet spot for me, but it’s cool that the game adjusts to your skill level.
My Final Thoughts For Today
I tried hitting on Rookie, and honestly, it’s a good challenge. Some people online were saying that the difficulty only affects the size of the PCI, which is the little circle you use for hitting. They were saying the AI doesn’t pitch any differently on Rookie than on Legend, but I don’t know if I believe that. It definitely feels different to me.
Anyway, that’s my experience with MLB The Show 24’s difficulty levels so far. I’m still figuring things out, but I’m having a blast. I’ll keep you guys updated as I climb the difficulty ladder!
