Alright, so I wanted to get that read option working in NCAA 25. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but I got it figured out and now I’m gonna share how I did it.
Figuring Out the Controls
First thing I did was to jump into a game. I messed around with different plays, trying to find the read option. When I finally found one, I started experimenting with the buttons. It took some trial and error, you know? But I realized that you gotta use the X or A button to make the handoff to the running back, depending on whether you’re on PlayStation or Xbox. If you wanna keep the ball as the quarterback, you just don’t press anything. That’s a start, but there was still the pitch option.
The Pitch Option
Figuring out the pitch was the next hurdle. I tried every button until I found out that LB or L1, again depending on your console, lets you pitch the ball to another player. It felt a bit clunky at first, but I got the hang of it after a while. The key, I realized, is timing. You can’t just mash the buttons; you gotta be smooth.
Reading the Defense
Now, just knowing the buttons isn’t enough. I learned that you really gotta pay attention to what the defense is doing. Specifically, that edge defender. If he crashes inside, towards the running back, you keep the ball. Don’t press anything. If he stays wide, that’s when you hit that X or A to hand it off. It’s all about making that split-second decision based on what the defender does.
Putting it all Together
- Choose a read option play. There are a bunch to pick from.
- Watch that edge defender. Is he crashing in or staying wide?
- Make your choice:
- Defender crashes in? Keep the ball.
- Defender stays wide? Press X or A to hand it off.
- If you kept the ball, look for an opening to run. Or, if you’re feeling fancy and the defense is really out of position, press LB or L1 to pitch it.
It took a lot of practice, messing up, and trying again, but now I can run the read option pretty consistently. It’s a fun play to use once you get it down. You just gotta keep practicing and pay attention to what that defense is giving you.
