Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Steve Stricker’s setup. I gotta say, it’s pretty interesting to see what a pro like him carries in his bag. I mean, this guy’s a legend on the PGA Tour Champions, right? 18 titles on the senior tour, 12 on the regular PGA, and he’s even been a Ryder Cup captain. Dude knows his stuff.
So, the first thing I did was to grab his driver. I heard he’s been using a Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond. That’s a mouthful, huh? But it seems like a solid choice. I gave it a few swings, and man, it felt good. I’m not sure if I’m getting any extra distance, but it sure sounds nice when you hit it flush. And, what is more? I just found that he’s switched to a Titleist TSR3 recently, maybe because he wants to balance the distance with control.
Next, I checked out his woods. Apparently, he’s still rocking some older Titleist models. His 3-wood is a 915F, and his hybrid is an 816H1. I tried them out, and they felt pretty familiar. Nothing too crazy, just solid, reliable clubs. I guess when you find something that works, you stick with it, right?
I didn’t really mess with his irons or wedges too much. I figured those are pretty personal, and I didn’t want to mess up his setup. But I did take a peek at his putter. He said he made a change recently, to a heavier putter, said it makes his stroke feel more solid. I gave it a few rolls, and yeah, it does feel pretty stable. I don’t know if it’s better than what I’m using, but I can see why he likes it.
A Little Story
- One funny thing I heard was about his wife, Nicki, caddying for him.
- Someone asked him about how much he pays her, and he said she gets way more than the usual 10%.
- He said, “She gets whatever she wants.” That’s pretty awesome.
Oh, and I saw this video where Tiger Woods was joking around with him on the range. Tiger called him “old man,” which is pretty funny considering Tiger’s not exactly a spring chicken himself anymore. It’s cool to see those guys still having fun and messing with each other after all these years.
Anyway, that’s my little experiment with Steve Stricker’s bag. It was fun to try out some different gear and see what a top pro uses. I don’t think I’ll be switching my whole bag anytime soon, but it’s definitely given me some things to think about. Maybe I’ll try out that heavier putter again sometime.
