Okay, so, I signed my kid up for this thing called the KO Junior Tour. I figured, you know, might as well get him started early, right? He’s 8, and apparently, that’s a good age to start swinging a club, according to some stuff I read online. They say kids as young as 5 can start, but mine was more into his toy cars until now.
First thing I did was to register online. It wasn’t too complicated. There was some email thing I had to do to confirm, but overall, pretty straightforward. I had to give them some basic info, like my kid’s age and stuff. He falls into the 8 to 18 age group, which is what they have for this tour. Oh, and they have different groups for boys and girls between 15 and 18 years old.
Next, I had to pay a fee. It was like 20 bucks. Which is not bad, considering that now he gets to play on these courses for just 5 dollars a round or something. They call it “Youth on Course,” which is a cool idea. Makes golf more affordable for kids, which I’m all for. I mean, golf can get expensive, right?
So, after registering and paying, we were pretty much good to go. Now he’s eligible to play in these tournaments. It’s all based on this ranking system called “Junior Golf Scoreboard” or something. Basically, they look at how he plays in these tournaments over a year, and that determines his rank. He needs to play at least four tournaments to get ranked, which is fair enough.
- Register online.
- Pay the membership fee.
- Participate in tournaments.
- Get ranked based on performance.
Getting Ready For The Tour
I got him a decent set of clubs, not too fancy, just good enough for a beginner. We started practicing at a local course. He seemed to enjoy it, which was a relief. I was worried he might find it boring, but he actually liked hitting the ball and seeing how far it went. It was fun watching him get excited about it. They say it helps with hand-eye coordination and stuff, which is a bonus. Plus, it’s a good way to get him outdoors and moving around. I don’t want him glued to a screen all day, you know?
The tour is supposed to be for kids in Montgomery and Bucks counties, which is perfect for us since we’re in the area. It’s nice to have something local like this. From what I understand, the idea for this tour came from some parents who wanted more playing opportunities for their kids. That was like 15 years ago, and now it’s this whole thing. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
Anyway, that’s where we’re at now. He’s had a few practice sessions, and we’re looking forward to his first tournament. I’m not expecting him to be the next Tiger Woods or anything, but as long as he’s having fun and learning something, that’s all that matters. We’ll see how it goes, but so far, so good. It’s been a good experience overall, and I’m glad we decided to give it a shot. It’s nice to see him trying something new and enjoying it. Plus, it’s a sport he can play for a long time, which is a good thing. It’s not too rough on the body, they say, so that’s a plus too.
