So, I was messing around on the internet the other day, and the name “Christian Laettner” popped up. I recognized the name, of course, he’s that famous basketball dude from way back. This got me thinking, what if I could combine this with something I’m into now, like board games?
I started by digging up some info on the guy. Found out he was a big shot in college, made it to the Final Four every year and all that jazz. Also got some basic stats: his position, age, height, even his career-high points. You know, the usual stuff you look up about sports guys.
Then, I thought about blending this with my board game hobby. I went to those sites where people discuss about the board games, and typed in something like “Christian board games” or “games without violence.” There were a few decent suggestions, but nothing really clicked.
I even checked out that Superbook Kids website. It’s got a bunch of animated games, Bible games, and all that, but it’s more for the little ones. I was looking for something more, you know, grown-up, but still chill and with good vibes.
There was this one game I stumbled upon, an expansion pack for Settlers of Catan. It lets you add more players, but you need the original game to play it. I mean, Catan’s fun, but it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
Then it hit me. What if I took the idea of Laettner’s basketball career and turned it into a board game? So I jotted down some ideas:
- Gameplay: Maybe you could draft a team, roll dice to move around the board, and collect points based on how your team performs.
- Components: Could have player cards with Laettner’s stats on them, a game board that looks like a basketball court, dice, and some tokens.
- Objective: The goal could be to reach a certain number of points first, or maybe have the most successful “career” by the end of the game.
I played around with a few prototypes, just some rough drafts of the rules and a makeshift board. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. It’s a rough idea, but I think there’s something there. A board game that’s kinda inspired by Christian Laettner’s basketball days, but also brings in those good, wholesome values. It’s something I’ll keep tinkering with in my spare time. Maybe one day it’ll actually be something I can play with friends, who knows.
