Okay, so a while back, I got really curious about what the pros carry in their golf bags. You know, like, what clubs do they actually use? I stumbled upon this guy, Lucas Glover, who’s been playing some great golf recently. I found out what he had in his bag as of August 6, 2023, so I thought, “Why not try out his setup and see how it feels?”
First off, I went ahead and got myself the same driver he uses. It felt pretty good, to be honest. Then I tracked down his fairway woods. These were a bit trickier to find, but eventually, I got my hands on them. Hitting them felt surprisingly smooth. I mean, I’m no pro, but they felt solid in my hands.
Next up were his irons. Man, those took some time to get used to. They’re definitely different from what I usually play with. It was tough at first, but after a few range sessions, I started to get the hang of them. I wouldn’t say I was hitting them perfectly, but I could definitely feel a difference in my shots.
Then I moved on to his wedges. These were interesting. They have a unique feel, and it took me a while to figure out how to use them properly around the greens. I practiced a bunch of chip shots and pitches, and slowly but surely, I started to understand how they worked.
Finally, there’s his putter. I’ve always been a bit shaky on the greens, so I was really keen to see if his putter would make a difference. It’s a bit different from what I’m used to, but after a few putting sessions, I started to feel more confident with it. I wouldn’t say I was sinking every putt, but my putting did seem to improve a bit.
My Practice Rounds
- Round 1: Felt super weird. Everything was new, and I was slicing like crazy. Definitely not my best round, but hey, it was the first time using this whole setup.
- Round 2: Started to get a little better. I was hitting the driver and fairway woods more consistently. Still struggling with the irons, but I could see some improvement. My short game was a mess, though.
- Round 3: Things started to click a little more. I was hitting the ball straighter and longer. The irons were still a challenge, but I was making better contact. And my putting, surprisingly, felt pretty good!
So, after a few weeks of using Lucas Glover’s setup, I have to say it’s been a fun experiment. It’s definitely not easy to just pick up a pro’s clubs and play like them, but it’s been interesting to see how different clubs can affect your game. I might not be playing like Lucas Glover anytime soon, but I’ve definitely learned a lot from this little project.
Would I recommend everyone try this? Probably not. It takes a lot of time and effort, and honestly, it can be pretty frustrating at times. But if you’re a golf nerd like me and you’re curious about how the pros do it, it’s a fun little experiment to try out.
