Alright, guys, so today I wanted to try out something I saw in an old wrestling video – the diving headbutt, like Chris Benoit used to do. I’m not a wrestler, just a dude who likes to mess around in the backyard, so don’t expect any pro-level stuff here.

Getting Started
First thing I did was clear out a space. I moved the lawn chairs and the kids’ toys, made sure there weren’t any rocks or anything I could land on. Safety first, you know? Even if it’s just goofing around.
The Setup
- I grabbed an old mattress from the garage. Thing’s been collecting dust for years, figured it was perfect for this.
- Propped it up against the shed, kind of at an angle. Not too steep, not too flat.
- Then, I used some old milk crates, stacked’em to have something to climb on them and make the “diving” spot.
The First Few Tries… Ouch
Man, the first couple of attempts were rough. I climbed up the crates, got myself positioned, and… well, let’s just say I didn’t exactly land like a graceful swan. More like a sack of potatoes. I kind of just flopped onto the mattress. It didn’t hurt too bad, thanks to the padding, but it definitely wasn’t pretty.
I tried a few more times, focusing on, pushing off with my feet, and I have to say, getting a little air felt pretty cool.
Figuring It Out (Sort Of)
After a while, I started to get a little better. I realized you gotta kind of tuck your chin and aim with your forehead, not your whole face. I also figured out that the jump is more important than I thought. You need that momentum to carry you forward.
I wouldn’t say I ever nailed it. I mean, I didn’t crack my skull open or anything, but I definitely didn’t look like Chris Benoit. More like Chris-from-down-the-street-who-had-one-too-many-beers-and-thought-this-was-a-good-idea.
I kept at it for, I don’t know, maybe an hour? My back started to ache a bit, and I figured that was a good sign to call it quits.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, it was fun, kind of dumb, but fun. Would I recommend it? Eh, probably not. I don’t have the skills to do, so it’s a good way to get hurt if you don’t know what you’re doing. But hey, I got some exercise, a few laughs, and a new appreciation for how tough those wrestlers really are. Those guys are nuts and brave to performe it.
Might try something else next weekend. Maybe something that doesn’t involve potentially breaking my neck. We’ll see. Stay tuned!
