Alright, so I wanted to get serious about Destiny 2’s competitive scene. I’d messed around in Crucible before, but never really tried to climb the ranks. Figured it was time to change that. I’m no PvP god, but I can hold my own, you know?

Getting Started
First thing I did was, well, just jump in. I hopped into the Competitive playlist, 3v3, and… got stomped. Repeatedly. Okay, maybe I wasn’t quite as ready as I thought. I needed to actually, you know, prepare.
I spent some time looking at weapon rolls, seeing what was considered “meta.” Ended up crafting a decent Beloved sniper and grinding out some good rolls on a few hand cannons. I’m a hand cannon guy at heart, so that felt good.
Practice Makes (Slightly More) Perfect
Next, I hit up some regular Crucible, just Quickplay, to get used to the feel of things again. Less pressure, more room to experiment with different weapons and loadouts. I started paying more attention to my positioning, trying not to just run headfirst into every fight. Baby steps, right?
- Focus on staying alive: Sounds obvious, but seriously, not dying is half the battle.
- Teamwork is (kinda) key: Even if your teammates are randoms, try to stick with them. Strength in numbers, even if those numbers are questionable.
- Don’t tilt: Losing streaks happen. Take a break, grab a drink, come back fresh.
Back into the Fray
After a few days of casual play, I felt ready-ish to try Competitive again. I queued up, took a deep breath, and… did okay! Won some, lost some. Definitely felt the difference between casual and competitive, though. People were sweaty.
I started noticing the ranks going up, slowly but surely. From Copper to Bronze, then Silver… it was a grind. I even watched the promotion series, I felt myself making progress little by little.
Still Climbing
I’m not gonna lie, it’s been tough. Some nights I feel like I’m on fire, other nights I can’t hit the broad side of a barn. But I’m sticking with it. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m definitely better than when I started. The goal is to at least hit Gold this season. We’ll see if I make it!
So, that’s my journey so far. Not exactly a pro-level guide, but hey, it’s real. If you’re thinking about getting into Destiny 2 competitive, just be prepared for a bumpy ride. But it’s a fun ride, even when it’s frustrating. Good luck, Guardians!
