Okay, so I’ve been trying to get this “hunter sloop baseball” thing down. It’s been a bit of a ride, let me tell you.

First Steps and Many Fails
I started by, well, just trying to swing the bat. I watched a bunch of videos online, tried to copy what those guys were doing. It looked so smooth, so easy. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
My first attempts were… comical. I whiffed more times than I care to admit. I hit the ground, I hit the air, I even managed to hit myself in the foot once (don’t ask).
- Swing and miss. Yep, lots of that.
- Awkward stance. I felt like a pretzel.
- Zero power. The ball just kinda dribbled off the bat.
Getting Some Coaching (Finally!)
I realized I needed help. I asked a friend who actually plays baseball to give me some pointers. He showed me the proper grip, how to stand, how to shift my weight. It was a lot to take in.
We spent a few hours in the park, just practicing. He threw me some easy pitches, and I slowly started to get the hang of it. I still messed up a lot, but I was starting to feel a little bit of improvement.
Small Victories
After a few sessions, I finally connected with the ball properly. It wasn’t a home run, not even close, but it was a solid hit! I actually felt the power transfer from my body to the bat, and the ball flew further than it ever had before.
That feeling was addictive. It made all the previous failures worth it. I kept practicing, kept tweaking my stance and swing, kept listening to my friend’s advice.
Still a Work in Progress
I’m still not great at it, not by a long shot. But I’m definitely better than I was when I started. I can hit the ball more consistently, and I’m starting to get a feel for the timing and the rhythm of the swing.
It just take practices, then practices, and more practices. And It is not easy, just like my friend told me.

I plan to keep working at it. I want to get to the point where I can actually hit a decent line drive. Maybe even a home run someday. Who knows? The journey is fun for now.
