Okay, so I saw this “crossword massage” thing floating around, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” My back has been killing me lately from sitting at my desk all day, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m all about trying weird stuff, especially if it might help with my aches and pains.

First, I tried to figure out what it even was. It’s basically having someone “write” words on your back with their fingers, and you have to guess the word. Sounds kinda silly, right? But I was desperate.
The Experiment Begins
I roped my partner into helping me. I explained the concept, and they were pretty skeptical, but thankfully agreed to be my “massage writer.” I lay down on my stomach, closed my eyes, and told them to go for it.
- First try: They started tracing letters on my back. It felt…weird. Like, ticklish but also kind of relaxing. I had NO idea what they were writing. I guessed “love”, cause it felt short,It was “cat”. So, I failed.
- Second try: They tried a longer word. I could feel them doing the lines and curves, and it started to feel a little less ticklish and more like an actual massage. It felt like a longer sentence, and I concetrated hard, finally I guessed “relax”, close…The answer was “relaxing”.Okay,I am getting good at this.
- More and more words: We kept going, trying different words. Some were easy to guess, like “sun” or “moon.” Others were way harder, like, I don’t know, “serendipity” or something. It felt funny, and we had many laughs.
Honestly, it was way more fun than I expected. The actual “massage” part wasn’t super deep or anything, but the feeling of someone tracing letters on your back is surprisingly soothing. Plus, trying to guess the words was a fun little game. My back didn’t magically feel 100% better, but it did feel a bit more relaxed, and, more importantly, I was in a much better mood.
So, would I recommend crossword massage? Yeah, I actually would! It’s a fun, silly, and slightly relaxing way to spend some time. It’s not going to replace a real massage, but it’s a nice little distraction and a good way to connect with someone. Plus, you get to work your brain a little bit! Give it a try – you might be surprised.
