Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at crossword puzzles lately. It’s, like, a way to keep my brain from turning to mush, you know? And the NYT crossword is the big one, the granddaddy of them all. Today’s puzzle had a clue that totally stumped me: “soccer star morgan”. I was drawing a complete blank.

First, I stared at it. Hard. Like maybe if I just concentrated enough, the answer would magically appear. Nope. Didn’t work.
Then, I tried to think of any famous soccer players I knew. My soccer knowledge is, shall we say, limited. I could come up with, like, three names, and none of them fit the letter count. Clearly, I needed a little help.
So, I grabbed my phone and hit up the allmighty search engine . Typed in “soccer star morgan nyt crossword” – straightforward, right? I figured somebody, somewhere, had probably been stuck on this same clue before.
The search results popped up. I started scrolling through. I saw some crossword solver sites, and, bingo! Most mentioned “Alex” as most possible answer. I tried out and see if it fits.
I went back to my puzzle, filled it in, and… it worked! It was like a little lightbulb went off. Everything else started clicking into place. Turns out, “Alex” is the key to the puzzle.
I have to say that my research was succussed this time. It’s not cheating if you’re learning, right? And I definitely learned something today. Next time I see a soccer-related clue, I’ll at least have one more name to pull from.
