Alright, so today I’m gonna walk you through how I figured out where to catch the Hawkeye football games on the radio. It was a bit of a hunt, but I got there in the end. Let me break it down.

First thing I did, I hopped online. Obvious, right? I started with a basic Google search: “Hawkeye football radio network”. I figured that’d give me a quick list. It gave me some stuff, but nothing super clear. Lots of old articles and random forums, not exactly what I needed.
So, I tweaked my search. I tried “Iowa Hawkeyes football radio affiliates”. That got me a bit closer. I started seeing links to the official Hawkeye athletics website. Score!
I clicked on the official site. Navigating those sites can be a pain sometimes, but I eventually found a section for “broadcast information” or something similar under the football section. They usually bury this stuff deep.
On that page, I found a listing of radio stations. It was a table, listing cities and the call letters of the stations that carry the games. Cool! I live in Des Moines, so I scanned the list until I found Des Moines. Turns out it’s on KXNO 1460 AM.
But, here’s the thing, I don’t always want to listen on the AM radio. Sometimes I’m out and about, and streaming is easier. So, I went back to the search engine. This time, I searched for “KXNO Iowa Hawkeyes stream”.
That got me to the KXNO website. Most radio stations these days stream online. I hunted around on their site and found the “listen live” button. Boom! Hawkeyes on my phone, wherever I am.
Just to be extra sure, I also checked the Hawkeye Radio Network website (the one I found earlier). Sometimes they have their own dedicated streaming link. Nope, it directed me back to the affiliate stations. So KXNO’s stream it is.
Important note: This can change year to year! Stations switch affiliations, streaming links move. So, you gotta double-check this stuff every season, especially if you’re not in a major city.
One last thing I did was download the TuneIn Radio app. A lot of radio stations are on there, including KXNO. This is a good backup in case the station’s website is being wonky.
So, there you have it. From zero to Hawkeyes on the radio (and my phone). It took a little digging, but it’s all set now. Go Hawks!
