So, I found myself spending a chunk of time really looking into Brandon Chubb lately. It wasn’t for any big project, you know, just something I got curious about, maybe a bit obsessed with, if I’m being honest.

It started pretty simply. I was watching some game highlights, maybe it was the Dolphins, maybe someone else he played for, I forget the exact game now. And I saw him make a few plays. Nothing crazy spectacular, just solid football. But it got me thinking. We always hear about the sack leaders, the interception guys, the flashy players. What about the guys just doing the dirty work, play after play?
My Process: Digging In
First thing I did, I just started pulling up whatever game footage I could find easily. Not just the highlight reels, but the actual game broadcasts, the ‘All-22’ stuff when I could get my hands on it. I wanted to see what he did when the ball wasn’t coming his way.
- Watching Film: I spent hours, probably too many hours, just watching him line up. Where did he position himself? How did he read the offense? Did he get caught out of position much?
- Ignoring Stats (at first): I deliberately tried not to look at the stat sheet initially. Stats can lie, or at least not tell the whole story. I wanted to form my own impression first.
- Focusing on Fundamentals: Tackling technique, block shedding, pass coverage drops. The boring stuff, really. But that’s where you see the real player, I think.
It reminded me of this time years ago when I tried to fix my own lawnmower. Everyone told me, “Just buy a new one, it’s easier.” But I was stubborn. I took the whole thing apart, piece by piece, cleaned every part, figured out how the carburetor worked (sort of). It took forever, I got grease everywhere, and honestly, it barely ran better afterwards. But I understood that mower.
What I Found (My Take)
So, after all that watching, what did I think about Chubb? He struck me as a really intelligent player. You could see him diagnosing plays pretty quickly. He wasn’t maybe the fastest guy sideline-to-sideline, you know, not compared to some of those track stars they have playing linebacker now. But he seemed to compensate by taking good angles.
His tackling was solid. Not many highlight-reel hits, maybe, but he usually got his guy down. Reliable. That’s the word that kept coming to mind. In run defense, he seemed pretty assignment-sound. Didn’t see him freelancing much, mostly stuck to his gap responsibilities.
Then I looked at the stats. They kind of confirmed what I saw. Decent tackle numbers, not leading the league but always contributing. Not a huge sack guy, not a ton of forced fumbles maybe. The numbers didn’t jump off the page. They just said “solid starting linebacker.”
It’s funny, because before I started this little deep dive, I probably would have just glanced at his stats and thought, “Yeah, he’s okay.” But after really watching, you appreciate the consistency. It’s like that lawnmower – it wasn’t fancy, but I knew exactly what it could (and couldn’t) do. Sometimes, knowing that is more valuable than just looking at the flashy numbers.
Anyway, that was my little project on Brandon Chubb. Just spending time watching, learning, forming my own opinion away from all the hot takes. It was kinda satisfying, like figuring out that old mower.
