Okay, so I jumped back into Genshin the other day, saw this hide-and-seek thing was running again. You know, the one where you pretend to be a box or a barrel? Thought I’d give it a whirl, see if I still had the touch.

Getting Started
First few rounds, honestly, I was rusty. Got thrown in as a Rebel, the hider. Panicked a bit, ran around like a headless chicken looking for the spot. Found what I thought was a genius location behind some building in Mondstadt. Plopped down, turned myself into a crate using that little skill they give you. Felt pretty smug.
Then the Hunter showed up. Straight towards me. My heart did that little jump it does. I’m sitting there, trying to look as ‘cratelike’ as possible. Didn’t work. They used that scan ability, pinged me immediately. Busted. First round, terrible start.
Finding My Groove (Sort Of)
Played a few more. Sometimes I hid better, sometimes I got caught quick. It really depends on the Hunter, you know? Some are relentless, some seem a bit lost themselves.
Then I got to be the Hunter. This felt different. Suddenly, I had the power! But man, finding people is harder than it looks. Everything looks suspicious. Is that barrel always there? Did that lamp just twitch?
I started using the skills more strategically:
- That first scan thingy, used it right away to get a general area.
- The one that traps someone? Saved it for when I was pretty sure I spotted a fake ‘toy’.
- And that big final reveal power? Held onto that until the last minute for maximum pressure.
Caught a few that way. Chasing someone down who breaks cover is kinda fun, gotta admit. Felt like a proper game of tag.
Those Clever Hiders and Funny Moments
Some players are just too good at hiding. I remember one match in Qingce Village. Searched everywhere. Scanned, poked, prodded. Nothing. Timer runs out. Turns out, one player was disguised as a tiny lamp perched way up high on a roof edge I didn’t even think to check properly. Well played, random stranger, well played.
There were funny moments too. Once, I cornered someone disguised as a hay bale. They panicked, tried to run, but got stuck on a fence. We just kinda stared at each other for a second before I tagged them. Another time, me and another hider accidentally chose the exact same disguise and hid right next to each other. The Hunter found us both instantly. Looked ridiculous.

Wrapping Up the Session
Spent maybe an hour or so doing this. It’s a neat little distraction from the usual grind. Doesn’t take much brainpower, but it’s engaging enough. You learn the maps better, figure out sneaky spots. Seeing how other people use the disguises, those little ‘toys’ they give us, is interesting.
It’s just simple fun, messing around pretending to be furniture. Got my rewards, had a few laughs, maybe got slightly frustrated once or twice. Overall, a decent way to spend some time in Teyvat when you want a break from fighting monsters.
