Okay, so check this out, right? I was messing around on YouTube the other day, procrastinating as usual, and I stumbled across this video: “ick kyrigos reacting to roger federer smashing racket.” I thought, “Huh, that’s gotta be gold.” And man, was I right!

I mean, Kyrgios’ reactions are always over the top, but seeing him watch Federer lose his cool was something else. So, naturally, I thought, “I gotta try to recreate this. I gotta see if I can capture that raw, unadulterated emotion.”
First thing I did was grab some screen recordings. I used OBS Studio, which is free and works pretty well. I clipped out all the best reaction shots, the ones where Kyrgios’ face is like, a rollercoaster of disbelief and amusement. I made sure the Federer racket smash was crystal clear too, crucial for the full effect, ya know?
Next up: audio. This was tricky. I didn’t just want the match commentary. I wanted the specific grunts and gasps from Kyrgios, the crowd’s reaction, everything! So, I re-watched the video like a million times, isolating the audio snippets I needed using Audacity. It’s a free audio editor and pretty straightforward.
Then came the fun part: putting it all together. I fired up DaVinci Resolve, which is a bit overkill for this kinda thing, but it’s what I’m used to. I started layering the video clips, syncing the audio perfectly. This took some tweaking, lining up the spikes in the waveform with the visual cues.
- I slowed down some of Kyrgios’ reactions for emphasis. Like, when Federer just loses it? Slowing down Kyrgios’ eye-widening makes it 10x funnier.
- I added some subtle zooms and pans to keep the eye interested. Nothing crazy, just enough to add some dynamism.
After that, I messed around with the color grading. Just a tiny bit, to make the colors pop and give it that extra bit of polish. Not trying to win an Oscar here, just making it look decent.
The Result?
Well, let me tell ya, it wasn’t perfect. But it was damn funny. I sent it to a couple of my friends, and they were cracking up. It definitely captured the vibe of the original, the sheer shock and amusement of seeing Federer, Mr. Cool himself, totally lose it.
The biggest takeaway? Paying attention to the little details makes all the difference. The timing of the audio, the subtle zooms, the color tweaks – they all add up to create something way more engaging than just a straight-up copy.
So yeah, that’s how I spent my afternoon. A little bit of video editing, a whole lot of laughing. Maybe I’ll try recreating another viral reaction video next week. Who knows? Until then, peace out!
