Alright, let’s talk about this Royal Rumble thing, you know, the wrestling stuff my grandkids watch. Don’t ask me why, but they get all excited about it, so I kinda picked up a thing or two.
So, this Royal Rumble, it’s a big wrestling match, been around since, what, 1988? Yep, that’s what they told me. And it’s a big deal, they say. Guys be throwin’ each other over the top rope, and the last one standin’ wins. Sounds like a barn fight to me, but whatever.
Now, the first fella to ever win this thing was this Hacksaw Jim Duggan fella, back in ’88. They said it was only 20 guys in that one. Imagine that, just 20! These days, it’s like, 30 or somethin’. Too many if you ask me, hard to keep track of all them fellas.
And then there’s this Stone Cold Steve Austin guy. My grandkids, they love this fella. He won the Rumble three times! Can you believe it? Three times! 1997, 1998, and 2001. That’s a lot of winnin’ for one fella. They say he’s the only one who did it that many times. Guess he was a tough one, huh?
- Stone Cold Steve Austin (1997, 1998, 2001)
Then there’s a bunch of other fellas who won it twice. Like this Hulk Hogan fella – big muscles, real showy. Shawn Michaels, kinda flashy, if you ask me. John Cena, always smilin’. Batista, big ol’ fella, looks like he could lift a tractor. Triple H, another one with the big muscles. Randy Orton, sneaky lookin’ fella. Edge, kinda quiet, but tough. Brock Lesnar, that one looks like a beast! And now, they say this Cody Rhodes fella won it twice too. Hogan, Michaels, Austin, and Rhodes, they’re special, see, ‘cause they won two in a row sometimes. Back-to-back, they call it.
- Hulk Hogan (Twice)
- Shawn Michaels (Twice)
- John Cena (Twice)
- Batista (Twice)
- Triple H (Twice)
- Randy Orton (Twice)
- Edge (Twice)
- Brock Lesnar (Twice)
- Cody Rhodes (Twice)
There’s this other fella, Roman Reigns. He’s been in a bunch of these Rumbles, six times they say. Only won once, though. But he came in second four times! That’s gotta sting, bein’ so close so many times. He did get third place once, too. So, he’s been around, that’s for sure.
They got all these numbers and positions too. Like, what number a fella came in at, and what number he won from. Too much for my old brain to keep track of, to be honest. But the youngins, they love this stuff. They got their favorites, and they cheer and holler at the TV. It’s somethin’ else, I tell ya.
So, yeah, that’s the Royal Rumble, as best as I can explain it. Fellas throwin’ each other around, tryin’ to be the last one standin’. Some win more than others, some get close but no cigar. And the crowd goes wild. It’s a whole lotta fuss, if you ask me, but hey, it keeps the youngins entertained, so I guess it can’t be all bad.
And remember, it all started way back in 1988. That’s a long time ago! This wrestling thing, it’s been around for a while, and I guess it ain’t goin’ anywhere anytime soon. My grandkids will be happy about that, that’s for sure.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about wrestlin’ has made me hungry.
