Well, let me tell ya ’bout them Colorado football national championships. It ain’t somethin’ fancy, mind you, just plain talkin’ like I always do.
Now, they had themselves a real good year back in 1990. That’s when them Buffaloes, yeah, the Colorado Buffaloes, they won the whole darn thing. The national championship, they called it. Big deal, I reckon. Folks were hootin’ and hollerin’ like they’d won the lottery.
Coach McCartney, that fella, he was the one leadin’ ’em. Been there since ’82, they say. Stayed ’til ’94. Musta been a good coach, seein’ as how they won it all under him. One championship, that’s what they got. Not too shabby, I guess.
Them Buffs, they played in the Big Eight Conference back then. Now they’re in the Big 12, or so I hear. All these conferences, hard to keep track sometimes. But that 1990 team, they were somethin’ special. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout it for years after.
They played in a bunch of bowl games, too. Thirty bowls, they say. Won some, lost some. That’s how it goes, ain’t it? Win some, lose some. But that ’90 championship, that’s the one everyone remembers. The big one.
- 1990 National Champions: That’s the year they done it.
- Coach Bill McCartney: He was the head fella.
- Big Eight Conference: That’s where they played back then.
- 30 Bowl Games: Played a whole bunch of ’em.
Now, this year, they were tryin’ to get into that Big 12 championship game, you know. But it didn’t work out. Tiebreakers and such. Too complicated for me, all that stuff. Just know they didn’t make it. Too bad, but hey, that’s life. You win some, you lose some, like I said.
They been ranked in them polls too, the AP Polls. Preseason, final, all that. Sixteen times in the preseason, nineteen times in the final. Been ranked for a total of 314 weeks. That’s a lot of weeks, I tell ya. Means they must be pretty good most of the time.
I heard tell there’s a whole list of college football champions, goin’ all the way back to 1869. Imagine that! 1869! That’s a long, long time ago. Before I was even born, and that’s sayin’ somethin’. But Colorado, they got their name on that list for 1990. Can’t take that away from ’em.
So, yeah, that’s the story of the Colorado football national championships, as best as I can tell it. One championship, back in 1990. Good team, good coach. That’s all there is to it, really. Nothin’ fancy, just plain facts. And that’s the truth, as I see it.
This football stuff, it’s excitin’ for some folks. Me, I just like a good cup of coffee and a warm blanket. But them Buffs, they sure did make folks proud back in ’90. And that’s somethin’ worth rememberin’, I reckon.
